The Newsroom (2012 HBO TV Series) Review
The Newsroom TV Series Review
HBO usually makes really good shows. That’s why when I saw that Newsroom came out, I knew right away that it is surely something that is worth checking out. And it’s not that bad, actually. I even like it, I’d say. Not to mention that I found it very engaging in spite of my stiff neck bothering me.
At first I couldn’t really stand all the demagoguery and grandstanding about the false left/right paradigm of politics but then I guess it’s natural for me to hate anything about the mainstream media and this show is definitely about the mainstream media so what else can I expect.
But I do really like it, actually. There's a lot of serious drama but at the same time a lot of mild comic relief. It's a really interesting concept and a good mix of characters.

The Newsroom Characters / Cast Review
Emily Mortimer has such a loving and nurturing beauty. I do appreciate it a lot that she’s in the show. Like I’ve said, I didn’t really like the show at first but since she’s there I was thinking why not learn more about her character. Her character is definitely awesome, having been to Iraq and Afghanistan and all, while at the same time being so hot and pretty (and really good at being an executive producer as well). I’ve always found her to be so pretty and I do think that she is perfect for this role. Her character is also so smart and passionate and I always like that.
That being said, I do love the tension between her character and Will McAvoy, played by actor Jeff Daniels who is also such a brilliant actor and someone who is also perfect for the role, in my opinion.
There are also other several interesting characters like the hot Olivia Munn from Attack of the Show, Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire, Allison Pill from Scott Pilgrim vs the World (I remember her most recently in Midnight in Paris as Zelda Fitzgerald though), Chris Chalk from Homeland, and this guy John Gallagher Jr. (I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of his other stuff but he plays a really interesting character in the show). Really such a diverse ensemble cast.
I do love the tension between all characters, actually. There’s just so much diversity and potential conflict that can add to the story from people who have been in the news and media business for far too long to those who are only beginning with their small ambitious steps in the industry. It’s really so intriguing. It’s hard to expect what will happen next.
I’m not sure if I like the overly dramatic and old school style OBB or introduction video and soundtrack. In my opinion, it could have been more edgy and modern. I am guessing it is some sort of homage to old school newsroom themed drama.
The creator of the show is also the creator of the Emmy Award-winning show The West Wing. Also, the screenwriter for the film The Social Network is one of the executive producers. There’s really a lot of pedigree in this show
But that’s just me, you know. I do take pleasure in politics and current events. So if you have similar interests then you might like The Newsroom. I’m really looking forward to more episodes of the show and I’m really frustrated that I have to wait for the next episode. This is usually a sign that I really like the show.
