What is Tapsilog?

Tapsilog is one of the all-time favorites of Filipinos to eat for breakfast. It is short for Tapa (fried beef tapa strips), Sinangag (fried garlic rice), and itlog (fried egg). Although it is considered as breakfast food it is commonly sold throughout the day in the Philippines and is usually served with spicy vinegar. Some stores of tapsilog are even open 24 hours. That shows just how much Filipinos love this dish.

There are many different kinds of tapsilog and the recipes are usually different. The beef part used also varies. Same with the egg that is commonly served as sunny side up or sometimes scrambled. There are even some that serve it as hard boiled egg. It is also sometimes served with atchara or pickled papaya.

I personally love eating tapsilog. There are a lot of variants and stores that I have tried to eat tapsilog but in general it is really good no matter where you get it or when you eat it. There are even stores that offer food deliveries in the Philippines.

Beef Tapa Recipes

As I have said there are many different recipes for tapsilog and some are a well-kept secret. But generally, beef tapa preparation is pretty easy. All you have to do is marinade your beef strips in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, calamansi. For some variants, they put brown sugar or honey. After that you just have to fry it and you're good. Just make sure you serve it with good spicy vinegar from the Philippines.

The egg is just your typical sunny side up. Perhaps add a dash of salt to taste and you're ready to serve it. The rice is easy as well. You just fry the garlic and just when it is already golden brown, you add the rices. Add some spices and a bit of soy sauce and you are good to go.
