Filipino Literature

Filipino literature is very rich and diverse and has been existing even before the Spanish occupation. Among these literature, one that is very popular would be poetry or Tagalog Poems.

There are many different kinds of poetry that comes from the Philippines. Most follow the typical rhyme schemes that are also available in English poems but it does not mean that all poems need to rhyme. There really are no strict rules when it comes to poetry in the Philippines. Some are even almost prose-like. I mean, I am no expert in literature but I think it can really be a freely expressive art with no rigid methodology or form. There are many examples of Tulang Pinoy or other things that come originally from the rich history and culture of the Filipinos. It is really important to know these things and understand why they are very relevant and why we should appreciate them more.

There are many sources of where you can find poetry made in the Philippines such as different history books, literary books, libraries, and even online sources that are readily available from the internet. Knowing the literature of a certain region can explain a lot about the lifestyles and cultures that are present in the area. There really is more to poetry than just words and can really reflect a lot about the consciousness of those who write them and the readers who appreciate them.

All these can really be a reflection of people's identities and consciousness at certain regions at certain times. We can all unravel secrets and take a glimpse of what it is like to live in a certain time and place just by reading these forms of fiction and poetry.
